The Regional Aviation in Europe

Regional Aviation in Europe is mainly developed , specially in countries like Germany, United Kingdom, France, Italy, Norway, Sweden and Finland.

According to data of the ERA (European Regions Airline Association), at the moment in Europe exist almost 70 regional companies that operate intra-european flights in more than  330 airports of the European Union. These regional airlines count on a fleet of about 1.100 airplanes covering near 1.000 routes. They transport 70 million passengers in 2 million annual flights. The 10 main European airports are served in any of them by more than 14 regional airlines.

Nine of each ten citizens of the European Union live in regions (412 million), outside the main capitals (41 million). Regional aviation contributes in a fundamental way to the prosperity of the regions and connectivity of these citizens, specially in isolated, mountainous regions or islands. Nevertheless this is not considered on European budgets, as the  99,49% of the European aids to the transport are exclusively allocated to railroad and its infrastructures.
