The First Airline of Regional Aviation in Spain.

 

Air Nostrum was constituted the 23rd of May of 1994. During the following months, a group of six people initially, started up the first private project of regional aviation in Spain.

 

The 15th  of December of 1994, the first Fokker 50 of the company initiated the regular operation of Air Nostrum, with the flight YW 251 from Valencia to Bilbao, carrying 16 passengers.

 

                         

 

The first stage of floating included the incorporation of three airplanes, fact that took place on January of 1995.

 

During the summer of 1995, the second phase was completed, with four additional aircrafts. With seven airplanes, Air Nostrum operated until the end of 1996, when the company confronts its third phase of expansion with five new aircrafts. Lately five Fokker 50 were incorporated, as well as four ATR72 (provided with 68 seats), to offer better service at the routes that presented a greater occupation.

 

In 1998 the airline add to its fleet the reactor CRJ 200ER of 50 seats, to operate long and specially international routes. In February of 2001 it took off the first unit of the Dash8-Q300 turboprop qualified for 50 passengers that is destined to replace the model Fokker 50. Finally, the CRJ900, 89 seats, were added to Air Nostrum in December of 2005.

 

The growth in the production of the company, (higher number of airplanes and flights) has come accompanied by a higher number of passengers and a higher coefficient of occupation of the airplanes (load factor). The projects of optimization of the supply, programs of reduction of costs, quality, etc, have allowed the Company to improve day by day the established objectives.

 

Air Nostrum knew how to cover a market opportunity by creating a network of cross-sectional routes and improving the offer of routes of Madrid and Barcelona.

 

Air Nostrum has become the regional company leader in the spanish market. It has developed an aviation concept that until that moment did not exist in Spain and was already having years of success in Europe and the U.S.A.
