DAY 1 AND 2: NORTH OF CASTELLÓN

 

At the start of our itinerary through the province of Castellón we will spend two fantastic days along the north coast. There are as many destinations as there are plans, so get ready to discover truly magical places.

One of the main stops you can make is Vinaròs, where you can enjoy its paradisiacal coves, its old town, and its delicious cuisine. You should not leave this town without tasting its famous prawns!

Another stop is Alcalà de Xivert-Alcossebre. Its closeness to the sea and the mountains has made it a special destination where you can enjoy incredible hiking trails through the Sierra de Irta or wild beaches and coves, such as Cala Mundina and Cala Ribamar.

If you prefer inland places, be sure to travel to Culla. It is a town where history, tradition and culture are found around every corner. You just have to walk through its cobbled streets to feel the peace and tranquility that surround the county of l’Alt Maestrat. Plus, it is considered one of the most beautiful villages in Spain! Peñíscola is another destination that you should include in your trip. Stopping by this beautiful municipality is a must. Before leaving the north of the province of Castellón you must visit Torreblanca. This town is full of colour, sun and sea and it has become a very touristic place in the region. Also, if you are looking to go snorkelling in unspoilt coves, here you can enjoy this wild nature framed in the spectacular beaches of the natural park of Prat de Cabanes-Torreblanca.

DAY 3: ELS PORTS, THE INTERIOR OF CASTELLÓN

 

During your trip, you must save a day to discover the beauty of the landscapes and villages of the interior of Castellón. Morella, capital of Els Ports, is a symbol in the province. This small town with a medieval atmosphere will make you fall in love with it just by crossing its walls.

In addition, this destination in the county of Els Ports is considered one of the most beautiful villages in Spain. Aren't you curious to get to know it? Its narrow streets will make you travel back in time, and you can discover its surroundings through different activities and hiking routes. It's time to take a deep breath and enjoy nature!

Another destination you can visit in the interior is Forcall. This municipality sits on the valley that forms the confluence of the rivers Bergantes, Caldes and Cantavieja. It is, without a doubt, an idyllic landscape surrounded by mountains covered in pines and oak trees.

We would also like to welcome you to Ares del Maestrat. This destination boasts an incomparable history and cultural and natural wealth. Levantine rock paintings will transport you to the Prehistoric Period to learn about the origins of this municipality.     

 

DAY 4: BACK TO THE COAST OF CASTELLÓN

 

We will make a stop at Oropesa del Mar. This coastal municipality of Castellón is characterised by being divided in two by a cape that receives the same name. To the north you will find miles of unspoilt beaches, ideal for diving. And to the south, the coast becomes more rugged, full of cliffs.

And how can we reach Benicàssim from here? The Via Verde will be our best ally. It is a trail running next to the Mediterranean that will take you to some unspoilt coves where you can take a good dip. Benicàssim is also a destination where culture, music and relaxation fill the atmosphere. There you will not only enjoy the sea, but also the mountains and its natural park of the Desert de les Palmes. It has it all!

But if you prefer the interior, you only have to take the car and drive to Vilafamés, a haven for painters and bohemians in the 70s that today houses the MACVAC with works by Tàpies, Juan Genovés or Dora Maar, among others. In addition, it is one of the most beautiful villages in Spain. This beautiful part of the province is surrounded by olive and almond trees. It is a place that will captivate you thanks to its landscapes, its history and the culture that is present around every corner.

To put an end to the fourth day, we can visit Castelló de la Plana. This is a city with beaches, orchards, mountains, history, culture, and much more. But it is best that you come and discover it. Walk through its old town, visit its museums, stroll around its streets following the Ceramics Route and visit some of the most emblematic places, such as the Cathedral of Santa Maria la Mayor and El Fadri. We also encourage you to enjoy its beaches and its port in the Grao de Castelló and to taste some of the best rice dishes with fresh produce from its fish market. Looking for more? DÍA 5: TAKING A DIP INLAND

 

The interior of the province of Castellón keeps on surprising us with destinations such as Montanejos. For this reason, we have booked a fifth day for the trip so that you get to know some places full of magical spots. Montanejos is characterised by being a municipality where nature and, above all, water are the protagonists. Do not hesitate to take a good dip in its river. You can also enjoy water sports and put your adrenaline to the test. Would you dare to practice canyoning? It will surely be an unforgettable experience.

Another destination to discover is Navajas. Here, a large centenary elm will welcome you to this part of Castellón that is full of legends. Do you want to learn about them? Just walk to the famous Salto de la Novia to see a huge waterfall, a. privileged place whose history makes it even more special. Come and find out!
