02 JUL 2026
The airline will operate 32 flights this summer with fares starting at €49 and connections to Ibiza and Menorca, reinforcing its role as a key operator in the Catalan airport system.
Air Nostrum is the only airline operating from all five Catalan airports.
VALENCIA, JULY 2, 2026
Air Nostrum, Iberia's regional franchise airline, continues to expand its presence in Catalonia with the launch today of a new direct route between Girona and Mallorca. The connection will operate during peak season, from this Thursday until August 31, with a total of 32 scheduled flights and a schedule adapted to the evolving summer demand.
During the first few weeks, from July 1 to 16, the route will consist of one round-trip flight per week on Thursdays. From July 17th until the end of August, the airline will increase its service to two weekly flights, on Thursdays and Sundays, facilitating both weekend getaways and longer vacations.
The route has launched with strong figures; both flights today had over 60% occupancy. There were 43 passengers on the inaugural flight, both on the outbound and return journeys. Tickets have been sold in more than 15 countries, and 40% of those who purchased tickets are from the Balearic Islands.
Inaugural Flight
The inaugural flight departed Mallorca for Girona-Costa Brava Airport at 9:45 a.m. Upon its punctual arrival at the Girona airport, the official launch of the new route took place. Among those present at the welcoming ceremony were Miquel Noguer, President of the Girona Provincial Council and the Costa Brava Girona Tourism Board; Jaume Fàbrega, president of the Chamber of Commerce of Girona; Joan Plana, deputy of the Girona Provincial Council and second vice president of the Costa Brava Girona Tourist Board; Pau Rich, director of the Territorial Services of Business and Work of the Generalitat of Catalonia in Girona and Vicent Pallarès, director of the Girona-Costa Brava airport.
At the event, Juan Corral, Air Nostrum's Commercial Director, explained: “Today's flights had a 59% occupancy rate, and we already have 60% bookings for the rest of the summer. That's 20% higher than usual for the launch of a new route, so it's very good news. 40% of the traffic originates in Mallorca, which means that people from Palma are interested in coming to Girona. The schedules are good for a long weekend. The route is being very well received; now we just need to reach 75% occupancy, and even more if possible. After these two trial months, we'll start working on how we can extend this connection. I know there's interest from the institutions, and we'll see how we can collaborate to maintain this success.”
The route will be operated with 72-seat ATR72-600 aircraft, an efficient model particularly well-suited for regional connections. In addition to the direct link between Girona and Palma de Mallorca, this new service will allow passengers to continue their journey to Ibiza and Menorca with short connections via Mallorca, significantly expanding travel options between Catalonia and the Balearic Islands.
Tickets will be available from €49 each way for round trips, a fare that applies to both direct flights and connecting routes to Ibiza and Menorca, facilitating access to these destinations under competitive conditions. Tickets can be purchased at www.iberia.com and through travel agencies.
At the five airports
With this addition, Air Nostrum reinforces its commitment to Catalonia, where it will operate a total of 15 direct routes from its airports, reaching nearly 2,700 flights annually and offering more than 240,000 seats. This expansion consolidates the airline's position as a key player in the region's connectivity.
In this context, Air Nostrum becomes the only airline operating at all five Catalan airports—Girona, Reus, Barcelona, Lleida, and Andorra-La Seu—a position that underscores its strategic importance within the region's airport system.
With this expanded schedule, Air Nostrum not only responds to the increased tourist demand during the summer months but also reaffirms its role as an essential operator for ensuring territorial cohesion and air accessibility in Catalonia.
